Mode Launches Mode Definitions: SQL-Based Business Logic for Every Team

Major upgrades to the Mode Data Platform make it easier than ever to create and share consistent, robust data analysis.
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., September 8, 2016—Mode, the data platform helping companies unlock the value of data, today announced the launch of Mode Definitions. Built to work seamlessly with Mode's powerful SQL query editor, Mode Definitions help analysts and data scientists work more efficiently and establish analytical consistency across dashboards, ad hoc analysis, and Python notebooks.
Analysts can use Mode Definitions to codify commonly used business logic in one, central place using SQL. Definitions can then be referenced in other SQL queries across the Mode platform. When database schemas change, an analyst can update a Definition once and automatically update all dependent metrics and reporting.
Mode is helping data teams increase the number of “citizen data scientists” empowered to analyze data, freeing up resources for strategic analysis. For business partners getting started with SQL, Definitions abstract away complex joins and deep database knowledge. Analysts can set logic once, and give others the confidence to pull data correctly using simpler queries.
“Customers are adopting Mode for organization-wide use because they see the value in equipping all of their employees with the information to make the best decisions possible,” said Mode CEO Derek Steer, “Mode Definitions help data teams work more efficiently and further enable self-service analytics for teams across a business.”
The launch of Definitions coincides with a major site redesign that brings teams together around data and analysis. Spaces, a new organizational feature, helps analysts curate reports for teams and projects. From marketing to sales, product development to executives, every team now has a home base on Mode where they can self-serve analysis on demand. For growing teams, Mode now offers customers on the Plus Plan three new levels of access controls. SAML/SSO, Database query access, and report view access, provide organization administrators fine-grain control over user permissions.
